"Pick a track, any track..." - that was Paul Kalkbrenner's mantra when putting together his new album 'Reworks', inviting a load of producers to get creative with his back catalogue then collating the results on this CD. Featuring the likes of Modeselektor, Sascha Funke, Ellen Allien & Apparat, Joris Voorn and Michael Mayer, 'Reworks' is a kaleidoscopic vision that sees contrasting styles and attitudes rubbing up against each other. Opening through the Wighnomy Brother's doom-laden interpretation of 'Steinbeisser', Kalknrenner's work is twisted and moulded to the given artists own perspective - as Sascha Funke offers up some bleeping tech-house and Agoria recasts 'Page 1,2,3' as an expansive slice of waterlogged dub. Elsewhere, Modeselektor's 'GIA 2000' is a stomping bluster of chinked synths and tooth-rattling bass, 'Queer Fellow' is given a cascading beat makeover by Ellen Allien & Apparat, whilst Michael Mayer's 'Feature Me' is a slow thaw of techno beats and sunset atmospherics. Say "yes Paul"!
