Marking the 40th in the seminal GU 'City' series, and the first release in over 4 years, Global Underground return in style after managing to secure one of the biggest DJs in the World - Solomun.
Since it's launch in 1996 with 'Tony De Vit - Tel Aviv', Global Underground's City series has been the benchmark to which other DJ compilations were measured. Over the years there has been numerous seminal albums from the likes of Sasha - Ibiza (which sold over 45,000 copies in the UK alone), Paul Oakenfold, Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, James Lavelle, John Digweed to name a few, and now it's Solomun's turn to re-ignite this magical series.
A native to Hamburg, Solomun has had a stratospheric rise in popularity, which kicked off in 2012 after a legendary first season in Ibiza with his own label-inspired Diynamic Neon Nights at Sankers. That year saw him crowned 'DJ of the Year' by Mixmag, and 'Best Producer' at the DJ Awards Ibiza. He returned to Sankeys the following summer with Neon Nights' at Sankers, plus his hugely successful weekly party at Pacha - Solomun+1, which has continued again this year.
Before this huge rise to fame, he ran the hugely successful club 'Ego' in Hamburg for over 7 years, so it seemed the natural choice to host the party for this release there, especially as was the clubs closing party the same night (June 21st). After Magdelena warmed up the crowd in the packed room, Solomun came to the decks at 3am, and continued well past the official closing time of 9am, truly a night to remember for all involved.
Due for release on August 24th, the compilation piece spans over two CDs, and features many of the tracks that Solomun played at the party. With tracks and remixes from the likes of Christian Loffler, Oliver Huntemann, Karl Friedrich, Fango, Alter Ego, Ada, Boris Werner, Audiojack, Broken Bells, Sevensol & Bender, Avatism, Mooryc, The Rice Twins.
